Is there NI hardware for LVIT sensors?

How and with what kind of NI hardware could I measure
way-displacement with LVIT sensors (2 coils and 1VAC
4.8kHz exitation) in high speed linear motion?
(displacement: 250mm , speed: 10m/s)

Is there a solution anyway?

Hey cpaw,

National Instruments does not have any equipment that is specifically designed for LVIT. However, the SCXI-1540 is specifically designed to work with LVDT sensors. I did a little research and these two seem to be very similar.

http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=4309〈=US

The SCXI-1540 has programmable input range per channel (0.05 to 6 Vrms), 333kS/s maximum sampling rate (250 Hz output bandwidth), programmable 1 or 3 Vrms excitation per channel at 2.5, 3.3, 5, or 10 kHz and multichannel synchronization.

The signal conditioning equations used for the LVDT is listed in the SCXI-1540 user manual at http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/322581a.pdf. You might want to compare these with the LVIT to ensure everything will work.

I hope this helps
out.

Hi JoshuaP,

Thank you for your answer.
If I use a SCXI-1540, I have to connect exitation voltage on the two-coils and channel entry on the
second one ...and I am not sure that it will be possible with this module.

On the other hand, the PXI-4220 designed for strain-gage could be a solution,
unfortunately no VAC exitation voltage is available.

But, I always seek a solution.

Hey cpaw,

I am sorry that it doesn't look like NI is going to have an easy solution for the LVIT. I would suggest filling out a feedback form to suggest a LVIT solution. You should be able to go to www.ni.com and select Contact NI. Then click on feedback.
