Measurement & Automation Explorer

I have a PXI-8196 embedded controller that I would like to update its LabVIEW software to version 8.6.1. However, Measurement & Automation Explorer gives me the following error message:

The operation could not be completed. Operation failed with error code: 56.

Possible reason(s): Timed out while communicating with remote target.

What is the remedy here?

Hey Cha,

Is your PXI-8196 embedded controller a Real-Time target or Windows controller?

If it is Windows based, you'll want to do one of these methods to install the upgraded version of LabVIEW to your controller:

1. Connect a USB-DVDROM drive to the controller and load your LabVIEW 8.6.1 disk

2. Download the installer from ni.com to the controller and install it

If it's a Real-Time target you may want to take a look at this KB. It explains your error and a solution.
