Monitor resolution 1440 x 900 is missing for PXI-8109

HI all,

I have a PXI-8109 (not Real Time) with Windows 7 installed. That is mounted in mobile cart, and I want to use it with F1DC101H - Belkin 19-inch Widescreen Rack Console (http://www.belkin.com/commercial/products/kvm/rackmount-consoles/19-in-widescreen-rackmount-console/). Native resolution for monitor is up to 1440x900; but there is no such resolution in Screen resolution settings.

Screen_Resolution.jpg

More than it there is no any resolution with smaller vertical or/and horizontal size that will keep proportion 16:10 (or 10:16) 1440/900=16/10=1.6.

That I did - setup closest to 16:10 resolution: 1280X768; this is working, but not perfect.

I've tried to set this settings:

Hide_Unsupported.jpg

But 1440x900 not in list for Video Card:

Additional problem that there is no any drivers for monitor, manufacturer claim that:

"... the Rack-Mount Console does not require any drivers or software to be installed in your servers. Simply connect all your servers to the Belkin KVM Cable Kits and it is ready for use..."

Is it possible somehow setup the native resolution for described above system?

Thank you,

Roman

Hi RangerOne,

Just wanted to start out by saying thank you for the great level of detail in your posting. Screencaptures, links, and additional information make troubleshooting much easier.

After reading through this and looking at my own system, I started to look at the PXI-8109. This device is a 2.66 GHz Dual-Core PXI Embedded Controller. As stated in the User Manual and Specifications document, the graphics of this device are driven by an ATI Radeon E2400 Embedded GPU. This would be the limiting factor inside of the 8109 controller.

I believe the way Windows gives you those operating systems options is by pulling information off of that ATI device and then displaying the various levels of resolution that the embedded GPU would support. You might try AMD's technical support or Windows 7 Technical Support for more information on what resolution options the GPU has available and how windows actually pulls that information.

As far as setting this up on the 8109, this would be a limitation since the chip doesn't have that option. Also, these options are going to be different on every computer depending on what graphics hardware you're using. For reference, the below figure is a screencapture of my computer's resolution options.

As you can sort of see from the above screenshot, the 1440x900 is also not an option on my desktop PC. Unfortunately this resolution is just going to be a limitation.

Have a happy holiday season!

I have the same problem with PXI-8101 and the same Belkin monitor. I cannot believe there is no way to get normal resolution on it. Picture on my monitor is horrible. Did anybody find some resolution to it?

Thanks.

Hi Zoran,

I've done some internet search and have found that the problems with monitors with resolution ratio 16:10 happens with other monitor manufacturers and other graphic cards, so there are issues and there are some solutions (actually I've got two and since second work for me I've stop).

Some people report that issues was fixed by monitor manufacturer driver, but this will not work if there is no monitor manufacturer driver.

One of solutions that works for me was using program PowerStrip, from this company:

http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

There are a lot of settings and adjustment possible, including setup of non standard monitor resolution. It is looks like settings applied to the system and saved in windows registry (or some other mechanism is involved) - after settings was applied you can remove software completely and settings will stay.

But be careful, since the settings are not just resolution but a lot of hardware based settings (monitor geometry, sync frequency etc..), I guess that wrong settings can damage equipment and/or corrupt OS files.

Another possible solution if you want to avoid that windows registry modification (or that other mechanism): program allow to generate monitor driver file with some particular resolutions (and other hardware based) settings and try to setup that driver. Actually on some reason was not work for me, but I have not try a lot.

I had to install updates to G4 Intel video card, from Intel, and all  needed resolutions (1440by900 among them) appeared. Looks like drivers which came with NI controller had old driver.
