NI PXI-1042 8-Slot Chassis Power Specification

Hi,

I am reviewing the technical specification for the NI PXI-1042 8Slot PXI Chassis.
My main objective is to determine whether this PXI Chassis has sufficient power to supply to the various
PXI cards to be included.

May i know how to go about doing this?

My current approach is to add up all the power consumption of the various PXI cards (eg NI PXI-GPIB NI-488.2 requires 2.25W)
and ensure that the PXI Chassis build in power supply can meet up to the total requirements of 8 slots.

I thought of reviewing through the power specification of this Chassis.
I come to realize that this Chassis has a build in Universal Power Supply and have checked on the
user manual as follows:
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371088a.pdf
I am looking for the power supply specification but are unable to find this information under Appendix A.

Any pointers? Or what is a more practical approach to achieve this objective?.

Hi issac,

You will need to do a power budget on the PXI system.  The document located here can help you do this.  Basically, you will need to look at the data sheet of each of the modules you will be using, as well as the chassis, and enter the numbers in to the spreadsheet attached to the document links above.  The calculations are made automatically for you.  Another document with additional details can be found at this link.  The data sheet for that chassis can be found here.

I hope this helps you get started.  Best of luck!
