In order to repair the Master Boot Record (MBR) for the Windows XP Professional Operating System installed on the PXI-1042, I have adjusted the boot order to boot from a USB CD drive with the Windows XP Professional installation disc loaded in the drive. I press any key to load the Windows XP Professional Setup. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen I press "shift+r" to "... repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console..".
The next screen displays, "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.... Setup Cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3."
What must I do to get Windows XP Setup to identify the hard drive to allow the Recovery Console to function properly?

TaurusTiger,
Thanks for posting. What is the controller that you are using in your chassis? My first recommendation is to make sure that the hard drive in your controller is properly connected. Another option might be to try to remove the hard drive from the controller and test it in another computer to verify that it is working. If it does work, then you could try repairing the MBR there. Let me know if this helps!

The system BIOS saw the hard drive. The embedded controller is NI PXI-8104. I transplanted the hard drive from the embedded controller to a shuttle PC, repaired the MBR, and then transplanted the hard drive back to the embedded controller. Fixing the MBR should have taken under 10 minutes and should not require moving the hard drive to another system.
