PXI 5122 spontaneously switches off (or doesn't start intermittently)

We have a PXI 5122 32MB inside a 1031DC chassis, 8186 controller, nothing else.

Problem: Sometimes the 5122 fails to switch on (no LED lights illuminate), and sometimes it switches off during operation, and LED lights go off. It seems only to happen during DC operation. Batteries are charged although running at 12V (1031DC range is 11V to 30V).

Any suggestions? One practice we have had is turning off the chassis rather than powering it down properly. Is this a very bad thing to do?

Thanks

Hi Richard,

At a guess I would say the problem may be due to the battery supply. Is it possible to use a DC source other than the battery, and if so, is the problem still there?

Have you tried the card in a different slot (which one are you currently using)?

With regards to the turning off of the chassis rather than powering it down correctly, I would strongly recommend going through the normal shutdown procedure as Windows doesn't like a hard reset by default. Is there any reason why you do this or is it more of a habbit? That said, I'm not convinced that this would explain the issue that you are seeing.

Thanks. Your suggestion about changing the slot seems to be right one - we moved it from Slot 2 to Slot 3 and all is fine. No obvious signs of damage to Slot 2.
