PXI-8156B SIS 5598/6326 vga device shows disabled

I just upgraded my PXI-8156B (in PXI-1011 chassis) from Win 98 to Win 2000. Using a Samsung N 723 LCD monitor. All worked well in Win 98, and I was able to go 1024 x 768 resolution no problem.

Now, in Win 2000 I cannot change the resolution from 800 x 600, and the SIS 5598/6326 vga device shows disabled/not working in device manager.  I downloaded a bunch of drivers for the SIS chipset, but none makes this any better.

I wonder if the motherboard is defective? Any others have similar experiences?

Have you followed the installation instructions for the 8156B loading Windows 2000?  Please verify that you went through the proper procedure by looking at the following Document.

Also I would try the following: (Should also apply for an 8156B Controller)

Reloading the video adapter driver on a controller running Windows 2000

  1. Read the video section of the "drivers.txt file to determine the type and location of the video driver within the c:\images directory. For this example case of a NI-8176 controller and Windows 2000, the drivers.txt file refers the reader to the c:\images\PXI-8171\graphics\WIN2000 directory for the driver.
  2. To point Windows 2000 to this video driver, right-click on the desktop and select Properties. Then select Settings » Advanced » Adapter » Properties » Driver » Update Driver. Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now and select Next. Select Specify a location and click Browse. Navigate to the directory determined in step #1 above and click OK. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete installation of the video adapter driver and reboot.
