PXI 8176 - computer crash

Hi,
I have a PXI 8176 controller, W2000 installed with 512 RAM.
I have computer crash problem.

When I first started 3 months ago, It was happenning once a day.
Now I cannot work. It is happenning immediately or 1-3 min after power on.

I am not sure but it seems like a hardware problem, because it crashes
even in bios menu.

Obviously it is not possible to reinstall th OS. How can I get resolve it?

Thanks,
Erden

Hello Erden,

Does the Power OK LED stay on after the controller crashes? If you do not place a module in slot 2, do you see an LED flash on the circuit board of the controller?

You can try resetting the CMOS, which contains configuration information about the BIOS.  Here are the steps to perform this:
  1. Power off the chassis
  2. Remove the controller from the chassis.
  3. Move the jumper on W1 from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3, as shown in
    Figure below.

  1. Wait one second. Move the jumper back to pins 1-2
  2. Reinstall the controller in the chassis.
Caution: Do not leave the jumper on pins 2-3. Doing so decreases battery life. Also, the
controller will not boot.

It may also be worth checking that the RAM is inserted correctly.

Have a great day.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

Resetting bios did not solve the problem. Also there is no LED flash when it crashes.
I tried different things. These are my observations:

- it needs to be wormed up to get stuck,

- When it reaches freezing condition, it keep freezing at every turning on (unles you turn it off and wait, but it just make freezing time little late.)

- It freezes even counting up the ram or in bios setup, (it does not seem like a windows or general software problem.)

- a few  times it gave blue screen with following message (with totally different numbers):
"*** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000095,0x800695A1,0x00000000,0x8200DAA8)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
*** Address 800695A1 base at 80062000, Date stamp 3E25B985 - hal.dll
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group."

- When it stuck, I moved controller to next slot, it worked without any problems for hours. Except a hardware error message because of the wrong place (I suspect that, controller is OK but something wrong with the chasis PXI-1042.)

- After it worked at slot 2 for hours, I moved it back to original slot, It crashed immediately when I turned it on.

Any suggestions?

Thank you very much,
Erden

Hello Erden,

Did you verify that your fans were turning correctly and that they were also clean?  This is required to give proper airflow for the controller.

If the fans are in proper condition, I think the best option at this point would be to test the controller in another "working" chassis.  This would really narrow down the problem.  However, I understand that this may not be a possibility.   Let me know if you have spare equipement to perform this test.

Have a great day.
