PXI 8187 boot

I have a PXI 8187 controller on a PXI 1010 chassis. I am having some trouble getting the controller to boot. I connected a monitor to the controller to see what's going on in the system during the boot. All other modules have been removed from the chassis. Every time the boot begins, it hangs at different points each time. I have recorded the last screen output each time it hangs.

1. “Transferring control to user program

      LabVIEW RT Boot Loader”

2. “Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.07

     CPU=Mobile Intel Pent 4 CPU 2.5 GHz...

     System Config Data Updated Error"

3. “ Initializing Intel(R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.09

      PXE 2.1 Build 083 (Wfm 2.2)”

4. “Initializing network.. static IP address assigned

     Device 1-MAC address: ...

     NI-RIO server 3.0 started successfully

     NI-VISA Server 4.4 started successfully

     No NI-CAN boards found

     Welcome to LabView Real-Time 8.6”

Help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

Just the clarify in case 4, the controller is not ready for use it has hung on the "Welcome to LabVIEW RT" line?

If you continue trying to boot your controller does it always hang at these 4 places or is it some where new each time?

Can you see your controller from your development computer at any time?

Thanks

Hi

I entered the BIOS setup utility and loaded setup defults. Now every time I boot message 4 is shown "Welcome to LabVIEW Real-Time 8.6".  Nothing happens after. Does this mean a successful boot?

Also I only connected the controller to a monitor not a computer as described in the instalation chapter of the PXI 8187 user manual.  Should I connect this to a PC?  And if yes, do I have to install anything for the development PCto detect the controller?

Thanks!

Bonnie

Hi bonnie86,

That last message should indicate everything is working.  From here, you'll use Measurement & Automation Explorer to continue using the Real-Time controller.  Refer to the Getting Started with Real-Time Manual for more details.

Hi

Thanks for the link, I've configured PXI 8187 using Measurement & Automation Explorer. I have Labview 2009 but not the LabVIEW RT module. Is this essential for me to use the controller? If no, what are the advantages?

Thanks!

Hi bonnie86,

The LabVIEW Real-Time module allows you to download VIs to the PXI controller and execute them headlessly (without a monitor attached or out in the field, for example).  Unfortunately, you'll be unable to use your PXI RT controller without the module installed.  You can find more information on the module at https://www.ni.com/en/shop/data-acquisition-and-control/add-ons-for-data-acquisition-and-control/wha....

What I would suggest in order to get more of your questions answered about the Real-Time module is to contact your local NI Sales Representative or NI Support
