PXI-8231 ethernet port using LabView Real Time

I am running a LabView Real Time system with a PXI-8186 controller with one ethernet port. A second ethernet port is used on a PXI-8231. MAX (running on the host) only sees this card as a GPIB card (which it is not). How do I get an address assigned to this port so that I can use it?

The 8231 and 8232 cards are supported by LabVIEW RT 7.1. The driver comes with LabVIEW RT 7.1 and will show up in the software installation wizard when you are installing software on the remote system. You have to install the driver to the RT system to use the board.

However, you can only use one port at a time in RT. The 8186 will look for the 8231 first if the driver is installed. If it finds one it will use it, even if there isn't a cable connected. So if have the 8231 in the system, it will always be used if the driver is installed. The one exception is in Safe-Mode where it doesn't load the driver and it would be using the built in port.
