We have an issue with one of our PXIe-1084 chassis (just over 3 yrs old) using a PXIe-8861 w/ a Windows OS. Occasionally during use the chassis will shut off randomly without user input, going to a Window power down screen and then shutting off. Once this happens the Status LED on the chassis will indicate a solid red color, and the chassis will not turn on from the front panel power switch for about ~3 minutes. We have very limited physical access to this system as it is in a remote site.
From reading other forum posts, it seems like this could be the case of a bad power supply or the remote inhibit setting being set to "Manual", however I'm doubtful the power supply is bad as the chassis is barely over 3 years old and has not been used extensively. Additionally, the remote inhibits switch is set to Default. Another cause could be overheating, however the system is sufficiently cooled, and in some instances shut-offs happened only a few minutes after the chassis was being turned on.
I'd like to weed out or confirm the possibility that this issue is due to bad power service. At the time of these incidents we seemed to be loading the circuit that the chassis was on pretty heavily. As I said we have very limited physical access to this system so it is not feasible at the moment to recreate the loading conditions. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced random PXIe chassis shut-offs as a result of poor electrical service.
