PXIe-8840 RT controller in PXIe-1071 chassis suddenly shut down

Hello everyone,

I built a testbench to characterize batteries, everything is controlled by a PXIe-8840 RT controller which runs real-time. Practically, build the code on the machine and launch it with a start-up VI, then I communicate with the VI through shared variables from a host PC. The code runs continuously h24 for days.

Since a couple of weeks, the machine suddenly shut down during the tests, then after a while, it powers up again. It happens maybe once a day or maybe every two days, but it looks like it happens more frequently in the last week.

I checked the following:

- The machine is connected to a UPS which has no power loss (I control the power availability in another manner, independently on the NI machine).

- The machine does not overheat. It is placed away from other machines, it's ventilated, the fan speed is set to high and the temperature sensor of the controller is about 60°C (according to NIMAX).

- There are no inhibit buttons or similar in my chassis which I could inadvertently press.

- I tried to run a very easy code (a 100 ms counter which reset after a while and communicates the counter value through a shared variable) instead of the code for battery testing, and it shut down anyway. I suppose that such a simple code cannot crash.

I honestly have no idea what is going on, and it looks like nobody had the same problem in the forum.

Did someone face the same problem or have some suggestions?

Any help is appreciated!

Have a good day

Davide
