Self starting PXI

Hi,

I have a problem with NI PXIe 1075 with PXIe8133 controller. The problem is simple - computer is starting automatically. Even if I turn it off, computer starts again after few minutes. Any idea what is the problem?

regards,

Marcin

Hi bikekowal,

I think (hope) that this is more of a Windows issue than PXI.

Please check that the network wake-up setting is disabled in windows, or more specifically that it is not set to "pattern match" or "pattern wake-up"

My other guesses would be that you have some a scheduled wake-up event defined in either windows or BIOS.

Please keep us updated on the issue.

Hi Simon,

I changed configuration of my network card and it looks like this was the problem. I'll wait and see what will happen today.

Marcin

Hi Marcin,

I am sorry to hear that. What is the type of the PXI chassis you use?

We should try to locate the wake-up event source:

Windows can also wake up on USB and even PCI-Express activity if it is supported and enabled in BIOS, and also after a power-loss.

Is it possible to try and disconnect every cable from your device, except the power cord the next time you leave it in the office? (I would say today, but you might not want it running the whole weekend)

This way we will know if it is a power-on feature (if it stays off), or an issue with the BIOS(setting) or chassis/power supply.

Let me know how it goes. If it powers on, I will try to grab a 8133 and your type of chassis, and look around for suspect BIOS options.

Hi,

This is PXIe-1075 chassis and 8133 controller. I unpluged everything, except few cards I am using with this chassis (almost all of slots are in use) and the problem still exists. Maybe there is a problem with acquisition cards pluged to the chassis, but i hope not?

regards

Hi Marcin,

Please take a look at your BIOS in the "Power/Wake Configuration" submenu settings as described in section 2-9 of the 8133 user manual downoadable from here:

http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/BC9F1203CE7D41C886257745004C97BB

Check and try to disable every wake-up feature except the power button (leave in normal). If the problem persists, try setting the power button to force-off.

If this does not help, then things might get a bit dirty: I would like to ask you to empty your chassis, so we can eliminate any addon cards (as you also suspect that these might interfere), and see if it stays powered off with just the power cord plugged in (BIOS wake up: all disabled, pwr button: normal)

At this point we would like identify if the problem comes from a faulty cassis/power supply, or the controller.

Also as an idea, is it at all possible to format your 8133, and reinstall window? Or is it out of the question?

ST

Some clarification for my previous post: empty the chassis except the controller...

Hi,

I checked BIOS settings - all of power wake up settings are disabled. I disattached the card which was added last and waiting for some results. I'll give a feedback.

Hi Marcin,

Do you have any update on the issue? Did you manage to solve the problem by removing PXI cards?

If not, then I would recommend removing the HDD from the controller (just to make sure that there is no possibility of software error), and if the system still turns on, please contact your local NI branch techsupport, who can help you further with faulty hardware. Please let me know if it comes to this.
