Using PXI8212 ethernet across MXI causes intermittent freezes in PXI8176 controller

The system consists of PXI8176 controller in an 8 slot chassis connected via MXI to a PXI8212 GPIB/Ethernet card in an 18slot chassis. The controller locks up when the network cable is inserted into the 8212. The network cable is either a cross-over cable connected to another 8176 in an 8-slot chassis or a direct connection to a hub on our network. The controller unlocks after a short while, works fine for a few minutes then locks again. Trying to access the network will lock it straight away. The same 8212 card works fine when fitted to the same chassis as the controller. When locked up, neither the mouse or keyboard cause any response from the controller. Pings from either controlle
r generally fail - sometimes the first ping from the controller connected to the MXI is succesful but subsequent pings fail.

I was curious to see if I could see the same thing. In my setup I used an 8176 in a 8 slot chassis connected via MXI-3 to a PXI -1010. In my PXI-1010 I put in my 8212. Everything recognized fine and installed. (By the way I was using Windows 2000 and using DHCP). My network settings showed both network cards. I unplugged the Ethernet cable from both cards several times, each time trying to connect to the our local LAN through each call. I did not see any problems during this process.
    Possible Problems
  1. 8212 is bad and is need of repair--Find a temporary replacement (check with Sales Rep) to verify this

  2. MXI-3 (one or both) has problems and is need of repair--Do other cards in the second chassis work fine? Pull out all cards except
    for 8212 and MXI-3

  3. Some network setting in windows is causing these controllers to hang. (Check with your Network Admin on settings for multiple network cards
