There are some excellent sources of information on the CompactPCI and PXI specifications, both on our website and on other sites that you should check out:
The PXI Systems Alliance web page is the main site for companies participating in the alliance. It is a good source for requesting the specification document as well as for white papers on PXI.
www.pxisa.org
Another good source is the main web page for the CompactPCI group, the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group, where you can find specifications and other info on CompactPCI.
www.picmg.org
From our site, you might want to check out the following document:
PXI Specification Tutorial
This should get you started on making the jump from PCI to PXI and highlight the key differences as well.

Also, another useful piece of information when building your own PXI devices is the pinouts for our chassis, which can be found in any chassis User Manual.
