Where can I obtain PXI prototyping for dummies

I am wanting to prototype modules and need a starting place to understand backplane signals and how to handle them. any help would be appreciated.

Hey Dan,

I don't fully understand what exactly you are trying to do.  Can you put up more details?  By "backplane signals", are you referring to the PXI trigger bus?  If so, I have a VI that I put up here that demonstrates how to use a counter on one module to gate a signal on another module using the trigger bus.  For more generic information regarding the architecture and the specification, try the What is PXI? tutorial; this article has a lot of good generic information as well as links to more detailed articles.

Cheers, Matt

Matt,

I was referring to prototyping at the chip level. I have a couple of Pickering prototype boards but I was wondering if I need all the hardware that is present on them or would it better to just do my own. I just want to get a 16 bit output to an A/D.

Thanks, Dan

Hey Dan,

The what is PXI tutorial that Matt put up is a long read, but it has a lot of general facts as to what signals and clocks are shared.  I would recommend reading it through to get the generalities down and then when you know a little bit more, ask if there's something more specific you're trying to do.  If that document does not cover what you were looking for, just repost and we'll see if there is something else we can point you to.  Cheers!
