We have a PXI 1000-B chassis with an 8106 controller.
Installed modules are 6608 System Timing, 2 x 1422 Image acquisition modules, 8430 RS-232, 8252 1394 host adapter.
OS is Win XP SP 3.
For several months we have been getting spontaneous restarts on this system with no blue screen error and no memory dump even though automatic restart is disabled in the Windows system failure settings. After experimenting with configurations we determined that setting the chassis fan speed to High will result in a restart after about 10-30 minutes. This may happen two or three times and then the system becomes stable and runs normally. The Chassis has the AC/DC power syupply and the results are the same whether the power input is from an AC or DC source.
Automatic restarts do not occur when the chassis fan speed is set to low.
Does anybody know if this indicates a problem with the PXI power supply? Or could it indicate a problem with the fan or something else entirely? Any ideas for a solution are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you for your post. It definitely seems that we have a fault power supply on our hands here. Do you by chance have another controller to test this with? Also, if you remove some or all of your peripheral cards, does the problem still occur? I would suggest giving us a call at 1-866-275-6964 to discuss this issue with an Applications Engineer who can RMA this device for repair. Have a great day!
Regards,
Todd V.
