Wrong Com Port order with PXI - 8422 in a Win2k system

While using my PXI-8422 on WinNT4.0 and NI serial driver ver 1.44 Ports were assigned com numbers top to down. ie Port1-COM1 , Port2-COM2 , ...
However on win2k and NI serial driver ver 1.45 ports were assigned com numbers in the reverse order. ie Port1-COM4 , Port2-Com3 ,...
And when i try to change com assignments the sytem hangs while trying to access the ports.
Any idea how to solve it?

Topcu,

We have seen the reverse order behavior before for serial devices in Windows 2000.

The first thing is to make sure that you tried to change the com assignments properly. If you only tried to change them in Measurement and Automation Explorer, it may not work. Here is the proper way:

1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel and double-click on the
System icon.
2. Click on the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.
3. Double-click on the Ports (COM & LPT) icon.
4. Double-click on the port you want to configure.
5. Click on the Port Settings tab.
6. Click on the Advanced button. The Advanced Settings dialog box
should pop up.
7. Change the COM number in the COM Port Number field. (You can
use a COM number that is designated as in
use, as long as no hardware
is actually using that COM number.)

If this is how you tried to reassign your ports and your system still hangs, please go to www.ni.com/support and click on Request Support in the black panel to let us know.

I have the same problem after installing CVI8.0.1 over 7.? . All the ports of my 16 serial port card (NI PCI-232/16) have changed order. Port 16 is now port 3, port 15 is now port 4,.... (I'm also using win2k).

I wanted to change it by following the explained solution from Sarah Feney but I couldn't do step 5 "5. Click on the Port Settings tab" because I don't have this tab when double clicking the port I want to configure.
I only have this tab when I double click on the fixed comports (the ones from my motherboard).

Any other suggestions how to solve this?
Thank you.

Hello Kristrio,
I went and went through these steps on a Windows 2000 machine with NI-Serial 1.7, and had no trouble.  You can try to uninstall and re-install the hardware to make sure it gets associated properly with the driver.  What version of NI-Serial are you using?  I presume from your comments that you are unable to change the port assignment in MAX successfully?  Did you upgrade your serial driver or install the driver after you upgraded CVI?  You may have trouble communicating with your card if you did not install the driver after the other software.  Also, it is a good idea to uninstall the old version before installing the new driver.

There is a terminal service it looks like you can use.  Microsoft has a KnowledgeBase that talks about this.  You can check it out, it may help.

I hope this helps.
Regards,
Angela
