successfully boot from a USB flash but system crashes

I used the following link to successfully boot an 8176 controller from a USB flash drive.

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/652BF52EA9D53813862572EB005B0F60

Using Acronis True Image Home 10.0, I created a bootable rescue media flash drive after following the instructions in the previous link.   Acronis boots up fine but when I start to access the network drives or touch the mouse pad, the system reboots.  I want to create an image of the system and put it on the network drive.  I'm thinking there is a problem with the drivers on the USB flash drive but I am not sure.  Acronis seems to work fine in safe mode but I can't access the network drives in safe mode.  I created the boot USB flash using the controller I'm trying to take an image of and  Acronis said it would put the necessary drivers on it during the create bootable rescue media process but I'm not sure if they did.  Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Andy

Hello Andy,

The reason you are having trouble creating an images is the Phoenix firstware recovery system.  You can not create a "ghost" of the recovery system.  If you have any more questions, please let me know.

We have made images of the 8176 in the past using Norton Ghost 2003.  I would make a floppy boot disks for the system with the 8176 Controller and a boot disk for our shop computer.  I would connect them to our intranet.  I would boot them both up and make the shop computer the slave and make the 8176 the master.  I would then put the image of the 8176 controller on the shop computers hard drive.  This has worked fine despite the Phoenix recovery system.  We need to update our imaging software and Norton Ghost isn't going to work anymore.  Can you explain more why this causes the system to reboot?

Thanks,
Andy
