In-Depth Software Review of the New Grid Automation System

ID: TS7140

Abstract: NI introduced the Grid Automation System at DistribuTECH 2015 in San Diego to help power systems engineers and operators retrieve better information from their grids. Unlike other devices, this system offers a software platform approach to measurements rather than the fixed, black-box design that has traditionally been deployed. The Grid Automation System is shipped with firmware to enable phasor measurement unit (PMU) functionality compliant with the latest C37.118 standard. Unlike most PMUs, this software is open for modification. At this session, hear from some of the developers of this code about how the system is architected and how you can modify it for your specific needs. Even if you are not an energy expert or an engineer with an energy problem, this is a good view into LabVIEW programming architectures that feature FPGA processing, timing, a host of real-time system functions, and web services to a thin client for configuration.
