Abstract: After reviewing the basics of object-oriented programming in LabVIEW, get an introduction to a design pattern for distributed systems. This pattern focuses on eliminating the need for shared-variable polling in applications warranting the incremental effort—either on real-time targets or in traditional programs that are heavily parallelized. The potential for reuse of the patterns coupled with their event-driven nature eases the developer’s burden and improves the efficiency of larger scale applications. The patterns abstract away the communication protocol to make related modifications easy with no need to change an application’s architecture.
