TS9601: Acquired Data Solutions Using the NI Toolchain to Advance AREVA’s Cavitation Peening

Speaker: Robin Mowatt (Acquired Data Solutions)

When AREVA engineers initially proved the cavitation peening process using a PC-based CNC motion controller, they knew they needed a field-based unit. Cavitation peening uses ultrahigh-pressure water jets to restore the surfaces of nuclear reactors. AREVA turned to NI and CompactRIO for smart and robust motion controllers with built-in DAQ. Working together, AREVA and ADS overcame the integration challenges of complex custom motion profiles, external system control, constant DAQ, and data reporting by using CompactRIO and SoftMotion. These tools enabled hardware-software integration to quickly validate motion profiles through custom points generation, simulation, and implementation.
