Hardware triggering options for the 5660?

I would like to hardware trigger the 5660 with a TTL burst trigger from my UUT. What are my options? I know I can IQ trigger but would prefer to TTL trigger as I can sync other instruments.

I have an 8196 controller. Can I use the SMB trigger on my 8196 controller and route it to the PXI star trigger or others?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

The 5660 has two components, an RF downconverter (5600), and a digitizer (5620). The 5620 can be configured to perform digital triggering.

When you say burst triggering, how specifically do you wish to acquire samples? How frequent are the triggers?

Please note that National Instruments does not recommend, nor support the use of the 8196 SMB connector for triggering, as there is almost always an option available with the devices inside the chassis.

Hi Evan,
I have an enable line on my UUT which goes high every time the RF output section of my UUT is transmitting. This occurs randomly but never faster than 125 mS. Another line is for the data modulation of RF with a random period of no shorter than 50 uS.

Given that my system will have 2 DMM's, switching, a high precision AI/DIO card, and a 32 channel pattern IO card, what's the best way to capture this trigger? I'm assuming that one of these cards may be able to export the trigger to a RTSI, PXI Star, or PFI line? Could I use the trigger input on the 5620 to capture the trigger and export it to the rest of the chassis for other devices.

Any suggestions or examples would be helpful.
Thanks,

Brian
