Revisited: Problem adding NI-RFSG *.dll to install bundle

Marian,

I'm not sure what you are asking me to do.

Do you want me to run the NI-RFSG 1.2.5 install on the development machine and then recompile the application install program?

Or do you want me to run the NI-RFSG 1.2.5 install on the target machine? We are not expecting to have to do multiple installs on our target machines.  That complicates the distribution.

Hi Tom,

I was under the assumption that the NI-RFSG 1.2.5 installation on your development machine failed. Is that not the case?

Sincerely,

Marian

Marian,

Yes, you're right.  Yesterday (my two previous posts), I was confused as to what problem we were addressing.

I separately installed the NI-RFSG1.2.5 on the development machine.  It created a log.txt which I tried to send as an attachment, until I notced it was taking a VERY long time and aborted the post.  It is over 100MB!  I then zipped it.  It reduced to 7.1MB.  Even this seemed to bust the thread memory allotment.  I tried to send it last night, and the post seemed to go through.  But it never posted and the icon in front of the thread title on the listing page was red.  New posts were not being accepted.

I'm not sure how to get you the file.  I could split the file, zip separately and attach two files each about 4MB.  I could create a new thread and attach to a posting there.  It depends on the nature of the limits of the buliten board/use group.  Is there a limit on each attachment?  Is there an overall limit for a thread? Etc.

By the way, I recompiled the application install, installed on the target machine and ran it. It exhibited the same behaviour shown in the "run_attempt.doc" attachment of the previous posting.

HI Tom,

thanks for sending the log file. I just checked it out and it appears that during the installation (which created the log file) everything installed correctly and no errors were reported. Is that correct?

By the way, I recompiled the application install, installed on the target machine and ran it. It exhibited the same behaviour shown in the "run_attempt.doc" attachment of the previous posting.
After the installation of NI-RFSG 1.2.5, NI-RFSG should now be available in "Additional Installers" dialog. In order to see the benefit of this installer upgrade you also need to select NI-RFSG in the product list. Did you do this or just recompiled/rebuild your existing project?

Sincerely,

Marian

Marian,

SUCCESS!

I indeed didn't have the NI-RFSG Alternate Installer selected.  I hadn't notice the addition and had left the old selection.  The generated installer now works.

The size is still annoying.  The directory of install files is 695MB.  Is there any way to reduce this so that it at least will fit on a single CD?

Tom,

I'm glad that the custom installer and your deployed application are now working.

Is there any way to reduce this so that it at least will fit on a single CD?
Unfortunately, at this time that will not be possible.

Sincerely,

Marian
