Hi,
The manual for the 9870 cRIO serial module says that it requires an 8-28V isolated power supply. I can see the possible benifit of an external power supply to break up ground loops and to power serial communications seperatly, but as I understand it, each cRIO module has some sort of galvanic isolation for module-module isolation. So I do not understand why an isolated power supply is required, would it not suffice to use the same powersupply powering my controller provided it has a high enough current rating? Not a huge deal, but I am curious.

Hello, it is required to power the rs 232 module because it supports such high voltage levels, between 3-15V.
Thanks,
