Add icd to RT target?

I'm trying to operate a camera through the RT target machine.  My host computer has the proper .icd so that it can be configured and operated through MAX, but the PXI system doesn't include that .icd file in it's (very) limited list of possible cameras.  It does, however, inlcude a second camera's .icd that sometimes gets used on the host machine. How do I get my desired .icd configuration to be an option on the remote system?

Thanks,

Doug

Hi Doug,

Which camera file are you planning on using.  It is my understanding that you should be able to just copy and paste the camera file into the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ\Data

One you put the *.icd file in this directory, you should be able to browse to it from MAX.

I've looked at this directory on the target machine (PXI) via ftp and there are many icd files, including the one I wish to use.  But when I right click on the Channel 0 (under img0, under NI-IMAQ Devices, under Devices and Interfaces, PXI (the name of my target machine), under Remote Systems) I am only given the option under "Camera" of two of the vendors, or to Search ni.com.  I'm using MAX 4.5.0f0, if this matters.

Hi Doug,

Is there an option to "Open Camera"?  It would be on the same level as camera.

This is where you would browse to the camera file.  If this option is not there, please post back with a screenshot of what you do see.

Yes, that menu shows up, but when I select "Open Camera..." only two of the .icd files show up, when there are in fact many more .icd files that reside in "C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Documents/National Instruments/NI-IMAQ/Data/"

When I type in the specific file name, it says it can't find it.  I suspect that it's looking in a different directory that has only the two files I see, but I don't know which one that would be.  Is there an easy way to do a search of the file system on the RT targetso I can find where it's looking?  Or do you have another idea?

Hi Doug,

The camera file probably isn't on the RT system.  Can you ftp into the target and see the file there?  If you can't, find the other two camera files, and simply copy and paste your file into this directory (via ftp).  Then, are you able to browse to it on MAX?

Which directory should the .icd files be in on the RT target?  The files are definitely on the RT target at the location you stated in a previous message.

I apologize for the confusion--the location I gave above is for a Windows machine.  An RT target isn't going to have as many files (nor as much file storage) as the Windows machine.  My recommendation is to find where the two files are that you can see the selection for in MAX on the RT machine, and place those in that same directory.   There will probably only be a few cameras in there.

If this doesn't work, then can you please give me some more information about the system you are using?  What is the PXI controller?  Chassis?  IMAQ card?  IMAQ driver version? Which camera are you using (maker, model number)?

When I ftp to my RT target I see the whole Windows file structure, which currently has 26GB of material on it.  It's a PXI-8106 system.  My card is a NI PXI-1428.  It's not a simple thing to search through the whole directory tree to discover where else .icd files might be hiding.  Windows doesn't allow a search of a network drive, so it has to be done manually (unless you know of another way).  so I'll repeat my question which directory does the RT system look in for .icd files???    Is there any NI documentation that explains the Real Time file system?

Hi Doug,

Have you checked the RT:/imaq/data folder?  Your ICD files should be here.  By default, the RT systems only have 2 on them.  FTP into here and check this directory.  Once you add your file to this directory you should be able to use that camera file.
