Adding gates to cRIO

We have a cRIO with an 8-slot chassis with 3M of FPGA.  Any way to increase the number of FPGA gates, for example, can we somehow put another 3M chassis in series to get 6M of FPGA? Thanks...

The only way to add to your cRIO system is to use another complete chassis and RT controller.   You can communicate back and forth from the RT controller using ethernet, or you could sync clocks or other data on the FPGA using digital IO lines between the two systems.

More information on this can be found on Synchronizing Multiple CompactRIO Chassis.

Thank you both for replying.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I'll definitely look into this, but unfortunately, I don't think getting another controller and chassis is an option at this time.

Thanks again for the help.

UTexEE,

Can you describe why you want to increase the number of FPGA gates? I assume you want to place more code on the FPGA. If you share more details about your application or the problems that you are running into, there may be other suggestions that can help solve the current situation. There may be better ways to implement your code on the FPGA that will greatly reduce the amount of FPGA gates used.
