Cannot configure SCXI-1161

Hello! This is not my first time to configure this module using SCXI-1000 chassis, I actually have six 1000's with three 1161's in every chassis that is configured without any problem but my last two sets. I've checked everything (i.e. cable connections, power, etc...) but still can't configure, saying "cannot detect modules". I'm not sure If I'm missing something, if there is please let me know.

Here's what I have.

LV 8.5.1

PCI-6259

MAX 4.5

NI Switch 3.7

SCXI-1000

SCXI-1161 (x3)

Thanks

Hello KowdTek!

Thanks for your post! I am sorry to hear that you are having two sets of chassis not working. If I understand you correctly you have two complete systems not being recognized by your PC's?

Are you using the SCXI-1349 connector to connect your DAQ card to your chassis? If you are what I would try is to take the cable and 1349 connector from a chassis that you know works and switch it out with a chassis that does not. This way you can eliminate any cabling problems. So from what I see you are not missing anything in your setup. Another piece of software to check is to make sure that the other two systems have DAQmx installed. You can find this information in Measurement and Automation Explorer software tab. Let me know if this helps and please post back with your findings!

Cheers!

Hello Corby,

Yes, I have two complete systems that are not configured. I think a should say that I was able to reset the chassis thru MAX, but SCXI 1161 remains undetected. I also tried swapping parts to eliminate other suspicious problems. I know that my cables and 1349 connector is good so I'm kinda leaning to the chassis internal connector however, I can't be sure. I also checked the DAQmx and they are present on both setup.

I have notice that when configuring using MAX, the part that I've pressed "save button" the relays ticked so somehow there's communication between PC and the chassis.

Is this a common problem with SCXI? Too expensive to act up.

I will try other thing after Christmas.

Thanks!

Hello KowdTek,

Thanks for your replay and information.

This is not a common problem that I have seen and when I have seen this it usually just a configuration problem. Another step to try would be to take an 1161 from a working chassis and try to use it in one of the chassis in question. The card is responsible for routing the communication to the back plane. Let me know if this helps and also let us know how it goes after the Christmas Break. Have a great day!

Cheers!

I just tested the working 1161 to the non-working chassis and still no luck.

I also tried the following:

1. SCXI - 1161 to the "known" working chassis. Result = Good

2. Non-working chassis to a "known" working setup. Result = Bad

3. Known working chassis to a new PC setup. Result = Good

I think I'm having problem with the chassis itself. Is't possible that these two chassis were defective when we received them?

Note that these chassis are used in anyways.

Thanks!

In addition to my last post, I tried connecting the non-working chassis with "known" working 1161 to a different  PC and it works. But when I replaced the 1161 modules, I've got the same problem. What could it be? Is there a driver version incompatibility?

Thread Continuation...

I just did a little experiment on swapping module. First, I have a known working SCXI setup (6259 - 1000 - 1161). I removed 2 module from slot 1&2 then inserted to new ones and they worked, but when I removed the 3rd module (3rd slot that is directly connected to 6259) and inserted a new 1161, the modules are  no longer connected. Note that the three modules (new) are all working when I tested them one by one.

Second, I tried the same procedure but to a different chassis and got the same results.

Weird????!!!!

Hello KowdTek!

Thanks for your post. I am sorry to hear that your chassis is not being recognized when you replace the 3rd slot. When you change the modules are you going in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) to re auto detect the modules in the chassis? What I like to do is when changing the communicating module I always delete the chassis from MAX and simply create a new one. If you do this does the same result of not being recognized happen? Give that a try and see if that allows you to recognize your chassis and all the 1161's in it. Also see this configuration guide just to make sure
