Connect CRIO to Router

Hi

I have a test site in a parking lot where only a router (a Billion SG6200NXL) connected to a usb 3G modem is available. I am having trouble detecting the CRIO. I am wondering what options do I have under such situation. Thank you!

Hi Oreki,

If you could give more specific on your National Instruments hardware i believe it may help me better understand your application.  What model of cRIO are you using? What kind of modules? Also what is the overall goal of your application?

Another area of troubleshooting is your connection more specifically your network configuration.  Do you plan on direct connecting to the modem? Have you considered what subnets and gateways on your DNS server you are going to utilize?

Hi AaronTheAE,

First of all, thanks for reply. I am using CRio 9068 and module 9227 & 9225 as inputs. I am thinking about directly connecting the hardware to the router and use port forwarding. I have little experience on this matter so I am not sure it it would work. Do I have any other option?

We are here to help! 😃 It sounds like the port forwarding should work but I am not familiar with how the 3G modem's network is going to be set up.  Since I believe it will not be the same network, you wont be able to use shared variables.  Your best bet will probably be to use TCP/IP communication.  Directly connecting the hardware to the router should be done but I think you will have to configure it all locally to deploy your code.

Hi, thanks again for your advice. Right now I have everything excpet the communication. The 3G modem is set for other communication and all is left is the CRIO to router connection. I have some question about port forwarding as I have no experience in this before. Do I need a static IP on the router in order to do port forwarding or I can get it done witrh some settings? Thank you!

I have found another forum thread dealing with nearly the same issue (https://forums.ni.com/t5/Real-Time-Measurement-and/Exactly-what-ports-are-used-to-communicate-with-a... unfortunately I dont know much about what is required for the port forwarding for the router as I work only with the cRIO.  For the actual ports that NI uses with the cRIO, I would recommend looking at this white paper (https://www.ni.com/en/support/security/configuring-software-and-hardware-firewalls-to-support-nation...
