Error when detecting c series modules

I have a cRIO 9014 and when I go to FPGA -> New -> C Series Modules... and then click the plus next to the C Series Module folder I get the error

"An error has occurred. Visit the Request Support page at ...."

There is no error number or anything helpful to suggest what the problem might be.  I did find something in the knowledge base that this can be caused by incompatabile versions of the LabView realtime.  The cRIO has version 8.2.1 and my laptop is supposed to have 8.2.1 but it shows up under max as 8.2.  Should I see 8.2.1 under max?  I requested that my system administrators install the realtime 8.2.1 and they claim they did but it shows up as 8.2 under max.  I have a desktop system that also shows the real-time version as 8.2 and I do not have this problem.

Any suggestions what the problem may be or how I can get a better error descrition?

Thanks,
Marshall

Hi crock,

What was the order of installation for NI software and drivers?  This document: Order of Installation for Multiple National Instruments Hardware and Software Products describes the correct installation procedure, perhaps the software was installed out of order.

The "An error has occurred" is unfortunately a generic error that pops out when there's not a specific error code associated with this behavior.  Regarding LabVIEW RT, yes, it should show up as LabVIEW Real Time 8.2.1 in MAX.  I've attached my screenshot to this reply.

This issue could be due to many different reasons, but first, I suggest following the KB above and make sure all the software and drivers are installed in order with the same version numbers for extra reliability.

Hi TMC-NI,  I'm the tech trying to install the LabVIEW Real Time 8.2.1 module for Crock.  Our University has a site license suite and all software is on DVD.  Do you have a reference of which DVD we are supposed to be using for the Real Time 8.2.1 module?  It appears the Spring 2007 booklet has the 8.2.1 versions but the load order is set by the DVD install. (It appears the standard Real Time version is only 8.2)  The only Real Time modules listed in the documentation are the RTX and ETS versions (which claim 8.2.1).  Is one of these versions what I'm looking for?

Sorry but I know nothing about this software, what Crock is doing or what hardware he has connected to his machine.  What information is needed for us to upgrade his laptop?  Is there a blanket Real Time 8.2.1 module to update or is it more complicated?  Do you have instructions for load order with a site license DVD?

Thanks TMC-NI..!

Hi TMC-NI,  As I'm sure you probably already know the Real-Time 8.2.1 module is not on any of the DVDs included in the site license Educational suite.  (It's a seperate cd which needs to be purchased.)  Fortunetly for us this cd is covered by our site license so NI support promptly zipped it up to their ftp site for a quick download.  NI support has been great to work with, are prompt and very professional.

Thanks for your help..

Hi Carrymon,

I am sorry for the late reply, friday was a very busy day on my end.  So yes, you are right, but I was not sure which version of the Academic bundle you guys had, so it seems at this point that you guys do have the LabVIEW Real-Time version 8.2.1.  I am glad the other applications engineer has been able to put that software out for you.  Essentially, if you follow the order of install I've described above, you should be able to see the real-time module in MAX as 8.2.1.  Let me know if I can help out further.
