Firewire with Real Time

Hello,

I am attempting to use twelve firewire cameras on a real time slave connecting them to the computer using three firewire cards with 4 inputs each. After connecting it all and accessing the slave on another computer using MAX It recognizes every camera. To avoid bandwith problems I reduced the frame rate to 15 using 640x480 resolution. The problem is when i attempt to capture sometimes (on random cameras) I get a timeout error. Any ideas on why this happens?

Hello,

From how many cameras are you trying to get an image at the same time ? I think it is possible that the bandwith is not big enough.

We are trying to capture from all cameras (12) simultaniosly. But we did the math and it's not a bandwidth problem...

Hello,

Well, ok does it still happen when you reduce the number of cameras ?

If we remove 2 of them leaving 10 cameras it works perfectly... Any idea why?

Hi,

Well, I don't have any idea for now, timeout errors are not easy to resolve. Did you take a look at this link ? http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/2977 Especially the part about packet size.

Regards,
