G Web Server with no internet connection

Running LV 8.0.1 with the internet toolkit and what I’m trying to do might seem a little strange with G Web Server.

We have html forms that use CGI VI’s to process the forms and give results.  This all worked great, but here is the problem:  Currently the G web server would run and anyone with an internet connection could work on the forms.  They now only want this to happen on one machine (the machine hosting G web server).  (Everything needs to be self contained for security reasons)

When I unplug the internet cable and run stuff everything still works. Instead of G web server finding and ip I can just go to localhost and everything still runs, and no one can access the forms from a remote terminal.  However, I don’t want the solution to be unplug your internet cable.  I was wondering if there was a way to make g web server think the internet cable is unplugged, so I get the same type of results as when it really is unplugged.  Hope that made sense. Thanks!

Hi RemyLeBeau,

Let me clarify, you would like to limit access to your G Web Server to only your local host.  If this is correct, you are able to do this using the information located in this KnowledgeBase.  Follow the directions in Section C, for the htaccess file.

More simply, you will create a text file with the following information and save the file as htaccess.txt:

 AuthType Basic
<Limit GET POST>
order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from the IP address of your local host
</Limit>

Place this text file in folder that you would like to protect.
  If you would like to protect the entire root directory, you can place the folder in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\www.

I hope this helps.  Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you in regards to this issue.

Best of luck on your application, and have a great day!!
