Having trouble loading software to RT host

I know never lend your stuff out...
After a collegue returned a PXI crate with a 8176 controller and 7831-R fpga board that I lent him, I attempted to connect to it to create a new project. I was able to get it on the network and see it on MAX. When I checked the Software tab to see what was loaded I found all of the standard modules listed for this hardware plus one more called maine.exe, but none were loaded. I clicked on Install Software to load from my host pc and it processed through the list of LV RT, NI-488.2 RT, NI-DAQ RT, NI-RIO RT, NI-SERIAL RT, NI-VISA, NI-VISA Server, NI-Watchdog, PXI Services, but hung at the very end. I found no way to terminate the install process other than killing MAX.

I started MAX again and took a look at the Software tab and it appeared that all modules were installed. I rebooted the PXI controller and I get all of the normal screen info with the exception of one error message: "NI-VISA loads modules (Passports) to access GPIB, Serial, VXI, etc. At least one Passport on your system could not be loaded. You should run the Measurement & Automation Explorer." Followed by "NI-VISA Server started sucessfully."

On MAX when I click on the VISA Options tab I get an error message that says "The VISA options could not be loaded for this system."

I have tried rebooting the PXI controller, the pc host, I have restarted MAX, and I have tried reinstalling the software, but now the install process hangs on every software module listed above.

This system is using LabView 7.0, RIO 1.0, VISA 3.0, MAX 3..

Any ideas??

Hi Ken,

Have you removed all the software before trying to reinstall it? Are you reserving formatting the controller as your last option? If you do decide to format, this link gives you information on how to do this.

I found out later that day that the gut who borrowed the system, he installed LV 8.2 on it. So I reformatted the controller's disk and re-installed my LV 7.0 stuff and it now works.

Thanks...
