Hello,
Could you specify which controller you have for the cRIO? Also the first thing that you may want to check is that the ethernet cable is a standard straight through cable and not a cross-over cable. The students before you may have not been programming remotely, they may have been connecting it directly to the PC (ie crossover cable used). As for the status light indications, the manual for the 9014 (this may or may not be your real-time target) indicates that this means there is an error in the software.
The controller has detected an error in its software. This usually occurs
when an attempt to upgrade the software is interrupted. Reinstall
software on the controller. Refer to the Measurement & AutomationExplorer Help for information about installing software on thecontroller.
This can be found here on page 12. Once you are able to contact your cRIO the best thing to do would be to reinstall the software on the cRIO.
If you are using a straight through cable, check to see if you can see your device under remote systems in Measurement Automation Explorer. If you can't then try to use a cross over cable to connect to your pc.
