NI-RIO, Error -63040 (kRIOStatusRPCConnectionError):

I'm trying to setup a Compact Rio 9014 with labview 8.5. In the project manager, I can detect and setup the system with all the modules, however the folders are grayed out. When I drag a module into a vi a new vi crated under the rio in the project maanger, the input says it cannot access the compact rio system. I started up MAX and I can see the rio, do software updates but I get an error message stating ni rio - error.
Error -63040 (kRIOStatusRPCConnectionError):
A connection could not be established to the specified remote device. Ensure that the device is on and accessible over the network, that NI-RIO software is installed, and that the RIO server is running and properly configured.

For NI-RIO 2.3 and forward, refer to Software>>NI-RIO>>NI-RIO Settings under the system in MAX.
Prior to NI-RIO 2.3, refer to Software>>NI-VISA>>VISA Options under the system in MAX.

And in this view, you can see that the modules and their channels are grey( they should be yellow folders)

Half way there, I hooked up the cRIO to another computer and reinstalled the software to the unit with a minimal instal. I connects and configures fine in MAX back on my desktop but i still get grey folders and am unable to read any data. is there a step I am missing?

I'm glad to hear you got things working.

For reference, we also have a great KnowledgeBase article that talks about this error message.
