Portable data logging from strain gauges

I am looking for a system to log between 8 & 16 channels (12 bits minimum) of data from strain gauges attached to a dynamic subject. The system must be portable (i.e., issues: power requirements; weight; compatibility with hand-held / portable computing hardware).
I am considering the 6041E (Al-16E-4) DAQCard - is this suitable?

A DAQCard 6041E would work well. You will also need a way to convert the strain guage resistance into a voltage. Probably an SC-2345 with some SCC-SG modules would work best.
