RT function to return the installed software

Hello,

I'm planning to implement a Watchdog on a Real-Time application and deploy it on several PXIs.

Unfortunately not all the PXIs have the Watchdog 4 module installed and I want to know if is a RT function (query) that can return the installed software’s and versions on the PXI and after this to check this in my application to enable or disable the Watchdog function.

This info is stored in the ni-rt\system\config.cds XML file. It would be nice if NI would post a function to parse that file.

Thank you Dwisti for your response, it was very useful. I have 2 more question (probably it would be better to open another topic).

1) What is the software module that installs watchdog  on the computer ? (DAQmx, LabVIEW RT ?). I have 4 Watchdog versions installed on my PC.

2) What is the difference between different Watchdog versions (3.0.0, 3.0.1, 4 ?)
