Version of NI Linux Real-Time Offline Installation Support

Hi,

I use NI RT Linux version 2017 on the cRIO. Which version of the NI Linux Real-Time Offline Installation Support is compatible with this version? I tested using version 2023 Q3 but I didn't get it to work. Should I try an earlier version?

NI Linux Real-Time Offline Installation Support is for System Image based installation and it was first introduced in 2019.

If you are using LVRT 2017, select Legacy Installation. See step 4 in Installing Software to Offline NI Linux Real-Time Targets

If I only want to install TCPDUMP can I do it without using NI Linux Real-Time Offline Installation Support?
Can I download a package file and transfer it to the cRio and install it?

You can try, but there is a possibility that the tcp-dump might require some dependencies and you will need to download and copy all packages.

Downloading the entire repo will ensure that there are no missing dependencies.

Ok, where can I find these individual packages?

I run the installation on my Linux RT virtualbox. Here are the four packages you need.

You can download those individual packages for 2023Q3 from

https://download.ni.com/ni-linux-rt/feeds/2023Q3/x64/extra/core2-64/

Two things to note:

  1. The webpage does not list all packages in a single page. You might need to scroll to the bottom of the page and click next page before you can search for those packages.
  2. By default, the FTP webpage appends a # when you open the link in the browser. To download the file by typing in the link, make sure you remove the #.

I get this error when I try to install the packages:

Do I need another package to install tcpdump?

As the error code suggested, you need the libc6 package of version 2.33 or later. The dependencies issue is an indefinite ending loop if you want to install a single package one by one.

I would highly recommend you to download the entire Offline Installation Support package and follow the steps in Offline installation of OPKG packages on Linux Real-Time devices. It is just a few minutes of download and installation.
