I am working with the cRIO-9024 and four different modules. All the correct software has been installed, and everything was working beautifully until a few hours into my work yesterday when I abruptly started getting a "Failed to connect to Real-Time target" message without having changed anything that could cause this. The system still shows up in Measurement & Automation Explorer, but it says that it is disconnected. I have restarted the computer multiple times and tried different crossover cables with no success. Is there something else I can try to get the cRIO to start communicating with the computer again?

Try turning on the No App switch. Maybe something in your program is locking up the cRIO. Can you FTP into the onboard storage?

If nothing else works, you can try Safe Mode (via dip switch). Once it is in Safe Mode you should be able to connect to it in MAX, and you can reformat the disk and reinstall software.

Hello - have a look at the things I looked at to eventually get a reliable connection on my cRIO. Maybe something similar with your problem.
Hope this helps,

I would agree with many of the suggestions above, since you should first verify connection in MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer) before trying anything with your program. Sometimes the device will still appear in MAX, but with a Red "X". Additionally, if you click on the device, you should get its status on the bottom gray bar in MAX. If it's not showing up in MAX, then I would suggest all the troubleshooting steps outlined in this KnowledgeBase article. http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/abe4bc247e8ac9bc8625734e005cab42?OpenDocument Console out is a very good diagnostic tool for seeing internal errors and verifying IP settings.
