cRIO 9030 RJ-485 Modbus Port

Hello,

I have a NI cRIO-9030 and I'm looking to use the RS-485 serial port 10 position jack and I'm a little confused with some concepts. I want to know if i'm correct in setting up the modbus I/O server as a  modbus serial over a modbus ethernet. If this is correct how do you assign the serial port (COM 1..2). I see in MAX two serial ports ASRL1 and ASRL2 which I'm presume this is the RS-232 and RS-485 serial ports. I'm wondering if it's as simple as RS-232 Serial port is ASRL1 AND RS-485

I could really use with a push in the right direction.

Thanks

TP,

I was surprised that I could not find a simple way to determine this.  There is probably a better way to do this, but I was able to find out which port was which by pointing to one of the VISA resources and trying to set the WireMode property to RS485 4-wire (I forget the exact name) and reading out the error.  If ASRLX was the 485 port there was no error, if it was the 232 port you get an error.

A little late but if anyone else comes across this it can be found in MAX -

Open VISA Test Panel for ASRLX

Under "Configuration" select the "View Attributes" Tab

Scroll down to Attribute: Wire Mode

The initial current value will indicate 232 or 485
