cRio 9014 Maximum Chassis Temperature

Hi,

I am running a cRio-9014 with cRIO-9111 and reading the Chassis Temperature.  The operating range of the unit is up to 70C.

In running at ambient of ~20 I see a Chassis temp of ~45C so 25C above which sounds plausible.  However when running in an ambient of 50C I see the chassis temp go up to ~95C….

a)  What is the maximum operating chassis temperature

b)  Should I be worried!!!!

Thanks in advance, regards Ben

Hi Ben,

It is shown in the NI cRIO-9014 datasheet that the operating temperature of the device is from -40c to +70c. Hence, using the device in 50 c environment may result in some unexpected behaviours.

Any other problems please let me know.

Hi,

Thanks for responding.  It looks like the Chassis Temperature is related to the on Chip FPGA therefore this should be fine running at higher temperature.  Awaiting confirmation of NI on this.

The -40C to +70C is the ambient of the 9014 so I would expect running at ambient of +50C will be suitable.

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your reply.

May I ask what modules you are using in your chassis? 45 degree is a huge increase in temperature and normal crio modules are not able to give so much power.

The chassis will be able to run in 95 degree, but such a high temperature will definitely affect the accuracy of the measurements especially the analogue modules.

Please let me know if you find this information useful and any problem let me know.

Thank you.

Regards,

Lanxi
