Hi,
Thanks for posting your query on the National Instruments forums. Shared Variable technology was introduced with LabVIEW 8 in subsiquent releases the technology just gets better. Having worked with version 7.1 and the more recent releases I would definately recomend upgrading. Another way to think about it is - there have been roughly 4 years between 7.1 and 8 release so your getting 4 years of RnD efforts with that upgrade. The latest release 8.2.1 is awsome packed with tonnes of technology. Infact why not download it for free on out website and try it out for 30 days in evaluation mode?
Have you looked into powering down the controller and perhaps pushing the driver software onto the controller again via MAX - i.e. format it etc. Have you got firewall enabled on the host machine? Is it accessed over a network? Is it cFP-2010 that you have or is it just the old FP-2010? Have you reinstalled the drivers - obtained the latest version?

Thank you Kirtesh
Your suggestion to upgrade makes alot of sense. However I decided to try using the RT communication wizard to get the communication between the PC and the fieldpoint target.
It has worked well, making a shared variable for each of the controls/indicators that I have put on the front panel. Now I have a stand alone application that launches on startup of the target, which means that the machine that my fieldpoint is controlling is independant of any PC.
I can also connect the PC via ethernet to the fieldpoint controller and visualise/ collect data, turn on and off some outputs (for example during maintenance). It has worked out quite well.
Nothing like a deadline to focus the mind
Thanks
