Configuring AO Group

My hard drive crashed on the computer I was using. I reinstalled all of the original software (NI DAQ and LabVIEW5). I was configuring the system and ran into my first problem. When I run my program and when I get to the part where I have my rotating equipment setup to take analog output from the SCXI. I receive an error "-10403 The specified device does not support the requested action. The driver reconizes the device but not the action." This is my problem. I'm kinda new to this sort of setup.

Hello Chris,

I will need some additional information to better help you.

What specific SCXI module(s) are you using and what DAQ device is cabled to your chassis?

Do you have the SCXI chassis added and configured correctly in the NI-DAQ configuration utility or Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)?
--For NI-DAQ versions prior to NI-DAQ 6.5, you can use the NI-DAQ configuration utility (found in the control panel of Windows) to add/configure and SCXI system. For NI-DAQ 6.5 and later, MAX can be used to add/configure an SCXI system. You will need to add/configure the SCXI chassis prior to programming it. The SCXI Quick Start guide linked below goes over installing/configuring an SCXI system within MAX.

After you have configured/tested the SCXI system in the NI-DAQ configuration utility or MAX, then you should be able to move to LabVIEW and program with it.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions about this.

Thanks for the help Todd. The DAQ device that is cabled is a PCI 6023 and I actually have a couple of cards but don't know which one controls my analog output...I have 1122, 1163, 1162, 1100, 1160. Any ideas about which one? Everything is configured in Measurement Explorer. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your help,
Chris

Hey Chris,

The SCXI-1122 and SCXI-1100 are both analog input modules. The SCXI-1162 is a digital input module and the SCXI-1163 is a digital output module. And finally, the SCXI-1160 is a switch module and so none of the SCXI modules are capable of generating an analog output. So, if this is all of the hardware you have, you won't be able to call an AO Group Config VI. And this is why you're receiving this error.

If you were using an E Series DAQ device with analog outputs, you could use that to provide analog outputs. But the PCI-6023E doesn't have any analog outputs.

Did you recently change which E Series device you were using in the setup? Most of our E Series devices have two analog outputs, so if you had another E Series device, that would hel
p us.

Let me know.

Todd D.

Whats up Todd,
Sorry about making you work so hard. I'm just learning about this application and NI-DAQ equipment as well. I appreciate all of your time.

I have found a CAD of the wiring for the system. I have uploaded it. This shows you all the cards and modules that I am using. It also shows where the motor that I am trying to control is connected to. This is the output that I need.

I don't know what an E Series is. How would I find this information out?

Let me know what other information.

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris,

There are no SCXI modules in your system that perform analog output. The SCXI-1124 is our only analog output SCXI module.

Therefore, one of the DAQ devices in your PC is probably doing the analog output. How many DAQ devices are cabled to your SCXI chassis? And what DAQ devices are installed in your computer? You should be able to go into Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and look under the devices and interfaces folder for a listing of PCI DAQ devices that are installed in your computer. You had mentioned a PCI-6023E (which is an E Series DAQ device), but that DAQ device has no analog outputs.

So, I think you probably have one or more additional DAQ devices installed in your computer and connected to your SC
XI chassis. Could you also tell me what SCXI modules the DAQ devices are cabled to? That will help me determine how your system is possibly configured.

Todd D
