Is shunt calibration necessry?

Hi,

I have 7 x (SCXI 1520 + SCXI 1314). I need to measure strain with using half bridge.
Normally 3 cables per bridge enough for half bridge but for the shunt calbration I need
5 cables per channel. (+ SCA x 2)

Is it really necessary to do shunt calibration. Should I use 5 cables per channel and perform it?
Or using 3 cables and ofset nulling would be enough?

Best regards,
Erden

Hi Erden,

You don't absolutely have to use shunt calibration.  However, once a shunt calibration is performed, you can use the results to correct measurement errors across the entire range of your strain measurements. The null offset just allows you to counter act the voltage level that you get when zero strain is applied.  I do not believe that you must use shunt calibration, but it is generally a good idea to do so.
