Phase difference error

Hi everybody,

I'm measuring pressure wave amplitude (which is around 1000 pa, 100Hz) simultaneously in two location within a closed resonator, and wish to also measure the phase difference between the waves at those two locations (which is around 1 degree).

My question:

I have several pressure transducers available, with varying errors and specs (and can also purchase others):

Endevco MEGGITT 8530 (range - 100 psi abs)

Endevco MEGGITT 8510 (range - 2 psig)

GE UNIK 5000 (range - 30 bar abs)

I have preformed this measurement successfully with only minor fluctuations, using the MEGGITT 8510, which has a very low error band compared to the magnitude of my wave. But using the other two sensors I can measure the amplitude and frequency successfully, but the phase measurement is fluctuating too much to make something out of it.

This might be kind of a basic question, but could you please help me figure out some estimate, or way to calculate the accuracy I need to have in any new pressure transducer I purchase, in order to take those measurements successfully? or maybe I should focus rather on signal conditioning or filtering?

Thank you!

Assuming a constant phase relation between your two locations:

Do two measurements with swapped sensors.

calculate the complex geometric mean (square-root of multiplied values)

Do the calculations with a pencil, incl. errors ..
