SCXI-1160, Cannot get Soft Front Panel to Appear

I'm bringing up an old chassis and old CVI code on a new system.  Our code runs without errors, but we do not hear any of the relays clicking.  I cannot get the soft front panel for the SCXI-1160 to come up so that I can investigate. Any suggestions?

More background:

I have a short SCXI chassis with a 1200, an 1100, and two 1160s, all returned from an Asian contract manufacturer.  The computer that came was returned was a wreck and none of the test programs ran.  I got a 6 month old desktop running XP and installed CVI V5.5 and NiDaq 6.9.3 and the new NI_Switch Executive 3. I configured the chassis in MAX.  The old chassis fan did not work and I could not get MAX to recognize the 1200.  I got a new chassis and a spare 1200 and then that worked.  Then I moved the 1100 and the 2 1160s to the new chassis.

It could be that this test doesn't actually throw any of the relays. I'll investigate that next.

Hi Ralph,

Switch Executive is recommend for use with CVI 7.x and later.  This can be determined by looking at the Switch Executive readme, which needs at minimum NI-Switch 2.4.  This leads us to the NI-Switch 2.4 readme, which states "Recommended ADEs: ... LabWindows/CVI 7.x or later."  This is probably the root issue here.  This doesn't mean that Switch Executive won't work with CVI 5.5, but it could be the issue.  It could also be that we don't have Switch 2.4 or later installed.  To check this, open Measurement and Automation and click on the software tab on the left window.  In fact, if you can send me a screen shot of all installed software, that'd be helpful.

DAQ 6.9.3 is the most current version we can use, as some of your cards are not supported in 7.x or later.  Given that we're limited to 6.9.3 with your SCXI-1200, I'd recommend using the software that was originally installed.  I'd verify the version of Switch Executive that you originally used (1, 2, or 3).

There are many aspects that could be causing this problem.  Let us know what you find about the relays working or not and we can take the next step as far as determining compatibility.  Also, let's check that the non-switch components of the system are working as desired.

Hey Ralph,

I'd also recommend using Windows 98 with this setup.

Ok.  So I have Win98 PCs now and am installing all the old stuff.  But how far back do I go for NI-Switch?  V2.0 wants to install NiDaq 7.0  (grrr).

Hi D,

I would recommend using NI-SWITCH 1.6.  Also, I've talked with Margaret, who is also working on this issue.  Would you rather continue this issue via email and the phone with Margaret or via the forums with myself?
