SCXI-1321

I am using scxi-1321 to measure the voltage A PVDF( piezoelectric film) generates. It is usually less than minus and plus 1 V. But the DAQ system keeps truncating my signal when it goes beyond minus and plus 5 V, 0.5, or 0.05V, depending on my gains. So I have two questions,
1. I don't want signal to be amplied, I just want to read whatever the voltage it can generates. How can I do that.
2. Why would my signal goes beyond 5v, 0.5, 0.05V. thanks.

Hi elftutor,

When you say that you are using the SCXI-1321, I assume that this is the terminal block on a SCXI-1121 card. Is this assumption correct?

The SCXI-1121 has a maximum +/-5 V input limit unless you use the SCXI-1327 attenuator terminal block.  You cannot accurately measure voltages of greater magnitude than 5 V. This is why your input signal is truncated when it rises above 5 V. If you need to read signals above +/-5V, you will need to use the SCXI-1327 attenuator terminal block.

If you do not want the signal to be amplified, you will need to configure your gain input to be 1. You can see how to do this on page 24 of the SCXI-1121’s User Manual.

Hope this explanation helps.
