SSC-68 and K-thermocouples

Greetings:
I have a problem related to Omega K-Type thermocuples and the NI SSC-68, hope that someone can help me.
I'm just attaching a K-type thermocouple from Omega (72 inches long) directly to the SCC analog screws (No SSC module) and using the Measurement and Automation I was able to find the connection to the correct terminal.
Then I use a DAQ Express VI to configure the reading VI and create a numeric indicator.  When I run my LV application, I have to touch one of the SCC terminals to "trigger" the measurement.  I mean, I'm able to actually see the measurement, but after a minute or so, the measurement stops, showing a fixed number and that's it, the measurement hangs up until I touch one of the SSC-68 terminals again.

I have the theory that I must somehow trigger one of the terminals of my SSC screw terminals, or that I must buy the SSC-TC anyway, so the NI hardware do the trick.
Is the P0.0 the right pin to do that?  Why is that the measurement stops?  Why is that I have to do that?

I hope someboby can help me a explain that is wrong with my temperature measurement.

Thanks a lot

HI pinkerton , the behavior you are describing can be achieved by configuring a task to be triggered with the amplitude of the measured signal and with a fixed number of samples., could you give us more info about this. Are you doing this acquisition inside a LabVIEW program? If you try reading the channel in MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer) do you have the same effect?  What DAQ card are you using? What version of drivers? Have you tried using another channel, do you have the same effect?

Best Regards
