Using SSR Modules with USB M Series Device

Hi,

I'm considering using a 24 slot SSR backplane with a combination of input and output modules to simulate the target of a control system we're building. I'm hoping to drive the SSRs using a USB 6221 (screw terminal) device and SignalExpress.

Can anyone help with advice on what cables etc. would I need to connect from the 6221 to the SSR backplane?

Also, does anyone have any advice on a power supply to drive the SSR backplane. The 5B power supply listed as an accessory is fairly pricey. Might a regular bench top power supply work?

Hi Mike,

Only the mass termination M-Series devices are designed to work with 5B and SSR devices. Please see the linked KB articles here and here.

In theory the screw terminal devices would work, but you would need to create a custom cable to map the pins correctly and at that point we could no longer guarantee the accuracy specs of  the USB-6221 as the cable can introduce unwanted noise and artefacts.

In regards to the 5B power supply the user manuals for products state the voltage and current requirements of a device as long as you can match these parameters with another power supply it will work.

For the DC output modules I can source the current directly from my device's DIO lines if they are capable? My 6221's DIO lines will source 24mA at 5V each which is greater than the 14mA max. logic current. So no current required from an external supply.

For DC input modules the current can't be sourced from the DIO line so I need to supply 10mA for each of these modules I'm using?

I can't find any value for the current required to run the backplane.

Hi Mike,

Looking at the product page for the SSR backplane, we can see the power adaptor is +5VDC @ 5A

Hope this is what you were after.
