loss of SCXI communication

I have an SCXI being controlled by a 6062E card and LabView software.  The majority of the time there is no problem with communications, however every so often, between acquisitions, the SCXI will no longer be communicating with the card.  The fix is to un-seat the 6062 card from the computer for a second or two and then push it back in.  Once the computer finds the card it also finds the SCXI.  When this happens the computer is still communicating with the card, but not the SCXI (no errors, only railed channels).  This behavior can be also be seen, sometimes, if the SCXI is turned off for awhile and then turned back on.  The SCXI will not be recognized unless the card is pulled and re-inserted.  Is there any way to be sure the SCXI is always detected?  Re-starting the acquisition software doesn't re-start communications.

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. Your behaivior is slightly odd, and I would only expect something like that to happen if there was a power interruption or perhaps a resource is not closed out.  This being said, instead of physically removing the devices, there are several other ways to reset the devices. 

-In Measurement and Automation Explorer (aka MAX), by pressing F5, that essentially refreshes MAX and makes it re-recognize the installed devices. 

-If you right click on your device under "Devices and Interfaces", you can select "Reset Device", and that should reinitialize the device. 

-You can also check to see if the SCXI is recognized by opening a test panel on one of the modules you are using. 

To try and find the root of the problem, when the SCXI does not work, If the DAQ card and the SCXI chassis don't show up in MAX, then check to see if the 6062E is recognized in the Device Manager in the computer (right click on My Computer»Hardware»Device Manager).  If it is listed there and not in MAX, then post back and we can try some other troubleshooting.

Also, just to remild you, its a bad idea to "Hot Swap" a PCI card while the computer is still on...
